Pompeo: US hopes to announce new NATO sanctions against Russia
WASHINGTON, Mar 28 (PRIME) -- The U.S. hopes that the country and its NATO allies will announce new sanctions against Russia over the situation in Ukraine during the NATO ministerial summit that is to take place on April 3–4 in Washington, State Secretary Mike Pompeo said late on Wednesday in a speech to Congress.
“We need to do more. Next week, I am hopeful, when our NATO colleagues are in town for the seventh anniversary of NATO, we will be able to announce another series of actions we will jointly take together to push back against what Russia is doing there in Crimea and in the Sea of Azov and in the region,” he said.
Pompeo said he was unsure whether Washington was doing everything it could in the situation in Crimea, but it continues to build its policy in such a way that Crimea would return to Ukraine one time. “It belongs to Ukraine, and we want to see that fixed,” he said.
